I love talking to students about my books and the writing process. The below presentation options will be adjusted for virtual platforms. If you’re looking for something different, I will happily customize a presentation for you. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact me.
General Presentations for Students:
Custom Pod-specific presentation: Are you trying to bring a little inspiration and motivation to your small learning pod? I’ll build a presentation around your objectives, whether curriculum-specific or casual.
The Writing Journey: (45-60 minutes for grades 3-6. Simplified version available for grades K-2)
To write, you need ideas, patience, persistence, and grit. I will combine the themes of my books and elaborate on my writing process and research techniques. Students will be inspired by the idea that they don’t have to be perfect, and it’s okay to fail as they put one word after the other on the page.
Book-Specific Presentation for Students:
Book Reading and Q&A: I’ll be happy to read from one of my books and then answer your student questions.
Video Conferencing Sessions: I offer 15-minute free Q&A video conferencing sessions to any class of kids who read my books. I also do longer sessions for a fee. Please see below for rates and reach out via my contact page.
Writing Workshops For Students: Workshops are ideal for grades 3-5. They require students to carry a paper and pen/pencil. We’ll dive deep into the chosen topics from plot, voice, revision, crafting scenes, and custom workshop.
Speaker Fees:
Virtual Author Visits: If teachers or students use one of my books for a project or classroom activity, I offer a free 15-minute virtual Q&A author visit session via your preferred online platform. Full online author visit presentations are also available and the details are below.
One virtual presentation of 30-45 minutes for grades K -8 – $150.00
Full day virtual presentations (Up to 3 virtual presentations) – $500.00
In-Person Author Visits: Within a one-hour drive of the Eastside of Seattle, WA:
One 45 min presentation (up to three classes in one group): $300.00 + travel
Half-day (max of 2 presentations) – $600.00 + travel
Full day (max of 3 presentations) – $1000.00 + travel
For all in-person visits that require an overnight hotel stay – $1300 per day for up to 3 presentations + travel
Potential cost increases for custom programming. However, if the author visit fees are beyond your budget, please let me know what you can afford. I’m always happy to work with YOUR school’s budget. The kids matter to me the most. So let’s make it happen! Significant discounts are available for Title-1 and Tribal schools.
Travel Expenses:
- Schools within 100 miles of the Greater Seattle area: transportation/ mileage rates
- Schools elsewhere: flight fare (where applicable), transportation, & hotel
*I can make the travel arrangements
*Please remember, if you decide to invite me, you can reduce the flight expense significantly by asking other schools to book visits the same week I’m in town for you. If more schools share the cost, it’s easier on everyone.
